Agew – “Esay Naiye”

The Agew have a rich cultural heritage that is unique to the specific Agew communities, which are dispersed in what were commonly referred to as Gojam and Wello regions of Ethiopia. The musical heritage of each Agew community is distinctly different from each other. Regardless of the locality, Agew music is upbeat and accordingly, Negarit Band creatively adapted fast-paced progressive rhythm changes, call-and-response themes as well as a truly experimental double-time ending with the traditional Agew folk music.
