“Filae Goferae” or Comb Your Afro

In this single, Negarit Band adapts the music of the Arsi Oromo of Central Ethiopia (“imitating” a galloping horse) with the softer melodies of the Southeastern Oromo (accentuated with “guttural grunts”) into an avant-garde jazz piece. The single is based upon “free jazz” foundations like the “duo musical conversation” between the drums and saxophone.
